Looking for 5 minute fixes for a party perfect house? We are! Because holiday parties and family gatherings are fun, but cleaning up before company comes is NOT!
No one wants to spend hours cleaning during this busy time of year. There is so much to do, so much shopping to be done, cookies to bake, and lights to enjoy!
You shouldn’t spend one more minute cleaning or party-prepping than you have to.
These genius life hacks to clean your home and get party-ready will save you hours this Christmas. Why wouldn’t you try them?
Gift Wrap Tablecloths
A roll of gift wrap can instantly hide a worn table that is in need of polishing. Buy a colorful roll of gift wrap (Christmas gift wrap, a solid color, or even a roll of brown paper) and unroll it to use as a tablecloth.
You do not have to clean or polish the table, worry about ironing a tablecloth, or stress about messes made on the table. When the party is done, just remove the gift wrap and recycle!
We love gift wrap from dollar stores. Buy several rolls!
Blankets and Scarfs
Spills and stains on your couch? A chair that is cracking or ripped? Don’t worry. Cover it!
Christmas blankets are the perfect way to cover a stain quickly and easily. Don’t already have a Christmas blanket or throw? They are usually quite cheap in discount stores.
We’ve also used large colorful scarves to hide furniture tears and rips. We took an old red pashmina scarf and draped it over a leather-like chair to hide the tears. Don’t be afraid to raid your closet looking for inspiration.
Oh my gosh, we’re overjoyed with what a lint roller can clean! We picked up a Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller at Target during a Target run. We had no idea that lint rollers came in these large sizes – they are PERFECT for quick cleaning!
We used our lint rollers all throughout the house. And we mean everywhere! First up was the staircase. After putting up garland and messing around with the lights and décor, there were bits of tree branches everywhere.
Pulling out the vacuum cleaner is such a chore. So we used a lint roller to quickly pick up the debris. With the 50% more adhesive on Scotch-Brite’s roller, the chore was done in 60 seconds or less.
So then we looked around the house, eyeing whatever we could quickly clean next. The pillows? Check! We just freshened up the outside with a quick roll, because ain’t no one have time for washing pillows this time of year.
Lamp shades? You bet ya. It’s amazing how dirty those things get. Instead of finding the attachment for the vacuum cleaner and then pulling it out, a quick swipe with the lint roller did the job in no time.
All of those little bits of fuzz, hair (including pet hair) and dust can instantly be removed from a variety of surfaces with one swoop of the roller. Think upholstery, tablecloths, Christmas stockings, bed spreads, guest bedroom pillows, stuffed animals and more!

We had to ask where lint rollers were in the store. We didn’t know, so here are some helpful visual hints on how to find yours –
We are BIG fans of using confetti and gift bag filler to instantly and quickly create a party mood. The splash of color from the party décor goes a long way with little money spent. Buy paper crinkle gift bag filler at a discount store and just scatter it anywhere!
This life hack works especially well on surfaces that you need to dust or that are scratched, but you don’t have time to clean. Just scatter the paper crinkles or confetti among trinkets and treasures, on the mantle, down the middle of the dining room table as a runner, etc. Instantly hides what you don’t want guests to see!
