Universal Studios Height Requirements (All 4 Parks)

Many attractions at Universal Studios theme parks have height requirements for the safety of guests.

Parents know that setting expectations before getting to the parks can help alleviate tantrums and tears if the kids know beforehand that they won’t be able to ride a certain attraction. So be sure to know the height requirements before your visit.

These are the height requirements for all of the attractions at Universal Studios in Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood. We also have a printable list to download or take a screenshot.

Many of these attractions with height requirements are also on our list of worst Universal Studios Orlando rides for motion sickness. If that is a concern for you, too, be sure to see our guide of which rides to avoid.

How Strict Are the Height Requirements?

Height requirements are not made to be mean, or to keep kids off of any attractions. Instead, the height requirements are created with safety in mind. Ride vehicles are created and then tested for a variety of different body heights and sizes.

Universal Studios, as well as Disney theme parks, take the height requirement seriously. They will not let a child who is an inch or two below the requirement ride just because the parents sweet talk the attractions host or hostess. This is a safety issue.

Because many of Universal Studios’ attractions are intense, you will find that a lot of them do have height requirements. Children not tall enough to ride can wait with a parent with Universal’s Child Swap option.

In comparison, Walt Disney World and Disneyland do not have as many height requirements because their attractions are aimed towards younger children. That is why it is important to consider the best age for Universal Studios before booking your vacation.

How to Measure Your Children

You will want to know which attractions to stand in line for and which ones you will need to skip when traveling with children. The easiest way to do this is to measure your kids before leaving, and to use these lists to see which attractions you will not be able to do.

For an accurate measurement of your child’s height, have them stand with a straight back against a wall. They should not be slouching, but their feet should be flat on the ground.

Using a tape measure, lay the ruler flat against the wall and mark the point where the top of your child’s head is.

Should you measure with shoes on? Yes, you will take your child’s measurement with the same shoes that they will be wearing at Universal Studios.

Keep in mind that measurements could be considered differently at the theme parks. The measuring device at the theme parks will be the determining factor. So if your child is barely 40 inches tall, there is a chance that the official measurements at each attraction will not let them ride a ride with a 40 inch height requirement.
